Detail about Cost of Study for UK

A cosmopolitan society, a large number of nationalities who belong to various ethnic groups reside in the United Kingdom. Universities in the UK provide you with the opportunity to learn and interact with a diverse range of individuals.

Current UK student visa requirements stipulate that you must have at least £1,015 (US$1,435) in your bank account for each month you plan to stay in the UK anywhere outside of London. This works out as £12,180 (US$17,200) per year.

If you wish to study in London, you’ll need to budget considerably more - at least £1,265 (US$1,800) per month, the equivalent of £15,180 (US$21,500) a year.

As an international student, you should be well aware of the cost breakdown. Knowing the same will enable you to undertake appropriate budget planning. This not only prevents you from overspending but also ensures you have a smooth university experience. Below given are a few cost considerations that you should understand once you decide to study in the UK.

The calculated fees are as under :

Tuition Fees

Subject & Tuition Fees (Per Year/ Approx)

 Arts, Humanities

 £8000-£10000

 Engineering/ Science

 £10000-£13000

Places other than London

If you're talking about paying for tuition, then that depends on what university you're going to compare it to, but overall London is quite an expensive city to live in.

Aside from that, you have:

Rent: A one-bedroom flat averages at £650 (~$1000 USD) per month if you’re in the city; £550 (~$850 USD) if you’re outside of the city.

Council Tax: The Council Tax is calculated on how much you should pay per year based on where you live and the number of people that live with you. This tax helps pay for trash collection, police forces, and street maintenance. It usually averages about £25 ($40 USD) per week.

Travelling costs: if you're an international student, which I assume you are, then there are the travelling costs.

Others: Aside from electricity and water (if not included in rent) you have to pay for health insurance costs, visa (if applicable) and meals.

There are some details which are calculated approximately. I got some prices for you but keep in mind that prices vary a lot:

Meal at a pub or restaurant: £10 (15.50 USD).

Combo meal at a fast-food restaurant: £5 (7.75 USD)

Litre of milk: £1 (1.55 USD)

1 kg (2.2 lbs) of chicken breast: £7 (10.85 USD)

A pair of jeans: £51.25 ($80 USD)

Half of a litre of beer £3 ($4.65 USD)

1.5-liter bottle of water £1 (1.55 USD)

Produce per kg: £1 to £2 (1.55 to 3.10 USD)

Applicants who have been offered a place before July will be given the opportunity to pay the full fees for the academic year and take advantage of a discount of 3%* over the total fee for one academic year. Applicants will receive more information, in writing, from the accounts department regarding this matter nearer the time.

Please make sure you inform us of any change of address so the fee account can be sent to the correct address.

The Term 2 fee payment will be due in early January. You will be sent a reminder fee statement in December regarding the amount due and the payment deadline.

The Term 3 fee payment will be due in April. You will receive a reminder fee statement. Please note students studying on a 12-month course should have a £0 balance, as the deposit will count towards this final payment. If you made the payment of your fees by bank transfer, you should expect some bank charges and that these bank charges might be reflected in a Term 3 account. (These charges are made by the bank once the money gets to London. The AA does not take any commission from it).
